bridge the void (a drawing installation)

here's the info for my drawing installation show at ucsd. it's up all week, and the reception (friday june 13, 6-10pm) should be fun, as it runs concurrent with scott horsley's mfa show reception (which is also a bunch of great drawings), and we're planning dueling party fun! please contact me if you want more info!

...a stage, the spotlight is on someone, but all the eyes are on you standing in the twilight of a makeshift back stage...you perform from the threshold of an open doorway...tragedy for you... comedy for them...TMI..on..CMI...jockstraps and jocktraps...echoes of the past reverberate throughout the void..the creatures are roaming aimlessly here is not there and now is not then and then can never become now even in the shadows of the void. the pain the world creates is the fossil fuel of the future...enough energy to keep the world running all night..however a thousand suns will never be enough to illuminate the void. the pencil chases the paper...a tree that died is about to be tattooed and released into the void.......

beautiful words... who said them?

I said them. It's a scene that started to play in my mind's eye as I was viewing some of your work. It was a true story once. In the void lengthy descriptions as seen in most literature do not exist, even in writing. Instead symbolism and allusion tell a story that may have taken hours, days, months, or years to unfold...in the void they are told in seconds and they roam their for eternity. In this world and in this day and age..crudeness in writing or drawing represents the ultimate complexity and the perfect puzzle. A locked box hidden away from the world in which only a select few will ever have the privelidge of seeing...but moreover..understanding..and ultimately transcending. Only those who can dream and are brave enough to slip the collars that society has placed around their necks will ever have the opportunity to look into the void and attempt to make sense of it's many puzzles. Your work does an outstanding job of depicting the void..some of them illustrating the last several years of my existence. I used to transcend the void, although recently I have more or less become a permenant resident. EYE will be keeping an eye on this website as I hope to see more of your interpretation of the void.
